The Story Began in 1960
In 1960, this stretch of Lake Kipawa's shoreline became home to a quaint fishing lodge founded on a simple principle: exceptional fishing, comfortable accommodations, and no unnecessary extras. This philosophy has endured for over six decades.
**The Early Days**
It was all about early mornings, cedar strip row boats, and long days spent chasing walleye, lake trout, and northern pike.
**Growing With the Times**
While Lake Kipawa itself remains unchanged, we have evolved. Over the years, we've made thoughtful enhancements to ensure each stay is more comfortable and reliable, including:
- Clean, well-maintained cottages
- Updated facilities-24 hour solar power
- Reliable rental boats, including authentic handcrafted cedar strip boats
- Improved dock and shoreline access.
We believe in preserving what works while improving what matters. You can still experience that classic Northern Quebec fishing trip, but with a more restful night’s sleep.
**A Place That Brings People Back**
Many first visited as children with parents and grandparents, and now they return with their own families. There’s something about Kipawa Lake and its traditions that keeps you coming back.
**Kipawa Lake Still Delivers**
Enjoy excellent walleye, deep-water lake trout, hard-fighting northern pike, and now, world-class smallmouth bass. Since 1960, the goal has remained the same: to provide a welcoming stay, great fishing, and continuous improvement without losing our unique character. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, we look forward to welcoming you.
Kipawa Lodge awaits!

Rene and Peg Vaillancourt were the founders of Kipawa Lodge. Although we never had the chance to meet them, we take pride in carrying on their dream. Many of our guests often reflect on the early years with fond memories.
