Walleye Fishing
Walleye is Canada's most popular game fish, prized for its unique look and mild, sweet meat. Walleye spawn in early spring, favour cold water, and are most easily caught at dawn or dusk because their large light sensitive eyes. Fortunately, the tea-coloured waters near Kipawa Lodge allow anglers to catch walleye even on sunny days by heading into deeper waters. The number one preferred technique for fishing walleye is vertical jigging with ¼ to 3/8-ounce jigs tipped with leech or piece of worm. Slip bobbers can be highly effective, as is trolling with crankbaits like Rapalas, Walleye Diver, and Storm lures. Slow trolling with worm harnesses also yields great results.
